Canada Joins Czech Republic, Spain, Netherlands, Thailand, Switzerland, Morocco, Egypt, and More as Popular Winter Getaways for UAE Travelers Looking for a Diverse Range of Destinations This Winter Season

UAE travelers are increasingly seeking a diverse range of winter destinations, with Canada now joining the ranks of Czech Republic, Spain, Netherlands, Thailand, Switzerland, Morocco, and Egypt as top getaways for the 2025-2026 season. This shift highlights a growing appetite for varied travel experiences, from Canada’s snowy landscapes and winter sports resorts to the cultural richness of Spain and Morocco, the tropical escapes of Thailand, and the luxury ski destinations of Switzerland. Travelers are looking for everything from vibrant city breaks and cultural exploration to sun-drenched beaches and alpine adventures, reflecting the UAE’s desire for unique and enriching winter vacations that offer both relaxation and adventure.

As winter approaches, UAE travelers are already making plans for their getaways, with a growing appetite for both local and international destinations. Expedia’s recent travel data, collected from lodging searches on the platform between July 21 and October 26, 2025, reveals a clear trend in the most popular destinations for the upcoming winter period (December 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026). The findings showcase a blend of serene local escapes and vibrant international cities, reflecting the diverse preferences of UAE residents seeking their ideal winter retreats.

Among local destinations, Fujairah has emerged as a standout, experiencing a 60% increase in lodging searches compared to the same period in 2024. This surge points to an increasing demand for staycations in peaceful, less commercialized areas of the UAE. Fujairah, with its stunning beaches and the majestic Jabal al-Hamri mountains, is becoming a popular escape for those seeking to unwind away from the hustle and bustle of urban life.

This rise in interest can also be attributed to new developments in the emirate. One of the most exciting additions is Parvara, a luxury camp-style hotel situated in the mountains, offering guests a unique blend of nature and luxury. Additionally, the announcement of the Avani resort (scheduled to open in 2028) promises to further enhance Fujairah’s appeal. The emirate has also teamed up with Ras Al Khaimah to develop a cross-emirate hiking trail, which is expected to attract adventure-seekers eager to explore the UAE’s natural beauty.

Beyond the UAE, European cities are capturing the attention of travelers. Madrid has experienced the highest growth in searches, with a remarkable 165% increase in interest. Known for its rich cultural heritage, historical landmarks, and festive winter atmosphere, Madrid continues to be a top choice for those looking to immerse themselves in a vibrant European city. Similarly, Amsterdam saw a rise of 155% in searches, reflecting the increasing demand for winter city breaks in Europe. The Dutch capital’s scenic canals, world-class museums, and cozy cafes make it an attractive destination for travelers seeking a cultural experience in a picturesque setting.

In addition to cultural city breaks, travelers are also seeking sun-drenched destinations for a winter escape. Krabi, Thailand, remains a firm favorite, with searches up by 135%. Known for its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and relaxed atmosphere, Krabi offers the perfect getaway for those craving warmth and relaxation during the cooler winter months. Thailand’s tropical allure continues to draw UAE residents looking for a quick and rejuvenating retreat without the long-haul flight.

For those in search of luxury and adventure, St Moritz, Switzerland, has experienced a significant uptick in searches, with a 125% rise. The prestigious Swiss ski resort offers not only world-class skiing but also an air of exclusivity and glamour, making it a popular choice for UAE travelers looking to indulge in both winter sports and luxury experiences.

Here are the top 10 trending destinations based on the percentage increase in lodging searches on Expedia:

Along with identifying the top trending destinations, Expedia’s report also highlights the most cost-effective and least crowded travel dates for the winter season. The busiest travel days are expected to fall on December 22 and 28, as many travelers take advantage of the holiday season. To avoid the crowds, the least busy travel days will be January 3 and 4, 2026, offering a more relaxed experience for those looking to travel just after the peak holiday rush.

In terms of travel costs, December 21 and January 2 are anticipated to be the most expensive days to book, due to high demand during the holiday season. Conversely, the most affordable travel days are likely to be February 3 and 15, offering a more budget-friendly option for those looking to enjoy a winter escape. Notably, these dates also align with Valentine’s Day, providing an ideal opportunity for couples to book a romantic and cost-effective retreat.

UAE travelers are expanding their winter vacation choices, with Canada joining Czech Republic, Spain, Netherlands, Thailand, Switzerland, Morocco, and Egypt as top destinations offering a diverse range of experiences, from snowy landscapes to cultural escapes and tropical getaways.

As the winter of 2025-2026 approaches, UAE travelers are embracing a wide range of destinations, from local gems like Fujairah to cultural hubs such as Madrid and Amsterdam, as well as sun-kissed escapes like Krabi. Whether seeking cultural enrichment, adventure, relaxation, or winter sports, travelers from the UAE have diverse preferences when it comes to their winter holiday plans. By being strategic with travel dates, travelers can also save money and avoid peak travel times, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable winter getaway. With a variety of destinations to choose from, the upcoming winter season promises unforgettable travel experiences for all.
